DapperManes
Welcome to DapperManes Maine Coon Cattery. My name is Mary and we are a small Maine Coon Cattery in Ohio. We are a full household with four children, lots of fish, a labradoodle and seven cats! I have always loved cats, especially BIG and FLUFFY cats! I adore the strong facial features of the Maine Coon breed, they are almost lion like. The first time I saw a Maine Coon I wanted one, I was mesmerized by this astounding creature, and now I want to share that love with you.
Your New Baby is Here!
If you are looking for a highly intelligent, playful kitty who purrs loudly, is friendly natured with huge ears and giant paws... this is right for you.
Did you know?
The Maine Coon is widely considered the largest cat breed in the domesticated animal kingdom! Often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Also, no one is exactly sure how the Maine Coon came to be. My favorite guess is that a housecat mated with a raccoon. Though the best guess is that they originated in Maine.
Fun Facts About Maine Coons
Maine Coons are fascinating cats with a lot of history and unique characteristics! Here are some facts about them:

Origins are a Mystery:
While there are many myths, the true origins of Maine Coons remain a mystery. One popular legend claims they are descendants of cats brought to America by Vikings, while others think they came with seafaring explorers from Europe.

Natural Mousers:
Maine Coons were historically prized as ship cats and farm cats due to their exceptional mousing abilities. Their hunting instinct is still very present, and they often enjoy interactive "hunting" games.

Water Lovers:
Many Maine Coons have a fascination with water. It's not uncommon for them to play in water dishes, join their humans in the shower, or be curious about running faucets.

Slow Maturation:
Maine Coons grow slowly and often take 3-5 years to reach their full size and maturity. This prolonged growth period contributes to their large size and muscular build.

Polydactyl Heritage:
Originally, many Maine Coons were polydactyl (born with extra toes). Although less common in modern breeding due to standards, some Maine Coons still carry this trait, giving them unique and often oversized "mittens."

Chirps and Trills:
Unlike many other cats who primarily meow, Maine Coons are known for their vocalizations that include chirps, trills, and soft warbles. They have a wide range of sounds and often "talk" to their humans in an expressive manner.

Extremely Gentle:
Maine Coons are often referred to as "gentle giants" because of their friendly, sociable, and easygoing temperament. They tend to get along well with children, other cats, and even dogs, making them great family pets.

Thick, Water-Resistant Fur:
Their luxurious coat isn't just for show; it serves a functional purpose. Their thick, water-resistant fur protected them in harsh New England winters, and their bushy tails were used to wrap around themselves for warmth.

Bushy Tails and Lynx Tips:
The breed’s long, bushy tails are often compared to raccoons (hence their name). Additionally, many Maine Coons have tufts of fur at the tips of their ears, reminiscent of lynx.

Exceptional Intelligence:
Maine Coons are highly intelligent cats. They can learn tricks, open doors, and are excellent at problem-solving. They enjoy interactive toys that challenge their minds and are quick to pick up on routines and commands.
